Breeder’s Cup on Friday proved to be rather interesting. Our group had purchased tickets both days for the Maker’s Mark Bourbon Lounge, which was located at the top of stretch, essentially. While the website made it very clear that there was no assigned seating, it did, however, make you think that there would still be seating for everyone.
That proved not to be the case. We arrived about an hour after the doors opened and the place was mobbed – and there was not a seat to be found. We all just looked around at each other and were truly at a loss because we definitely didn’t want to stand around for 8+ hours.
Then James and I met with Keeneland’s customer service, who were very helpful. They told us that we could have upgraded tickets to the Loge Boxes in the Grandstand. Even though they were outside and it was a little chilly, we decided to take them. A seat outside with a gorgeous view of the finish line was definitely better than standing around inside the Bourbon Lounge all day.
On the way over, I purchased a Breeder’s Cup jacket, so I knew I’d be fine with that extra layer. The family next to our box was native Lexington, so we enjoyed talking with them during the day. Again, I’m beyond jealous of anyone who lives in Lexington!
Even though there was a bit of a snafu in the morning, Keeneland worked hard to make sure we were happy, so they could not have been more wonderful. It was a beautiful day of racing, and I was so excited to see Stopchargingmaria take the Distaff!
