Equestrian Book + Market Fair: A Recap
Last week my friend, Melanie Ferrio, and I hosted our first Equestrian Book + Market Fair at her farm, Rutledge Ridge. It was a beautiful day in Maryland horse country, and I was so happy with how it went!
Not only was this our first time hosting the fair, but it was my very first author event/book signing. For years I’d wanted to get out there, meet my readers, and sell some books, but between my travel schedule, life in general, and my anxiety, I never made it to one.
But I can’t say that anymore! I had a wonderful time meeting all of you, talking horses, and signing some books. I also got some compliments on my tablescape, which was so kind because I put a lot of time and thought into my décor, color palette, and overall aesthetic.
I was also in amazing company as I was joined by my author friends Susan Friedland, Heather Wallace, Natalie Keller Reinert, (who all came a great distance to attend), and fellow local author, Patrick Smithwick.
In addition to the authors, we also had 35+ vendors of all kinds, (mostly horsey but some not), as well as a variety of demos and speakers throughout the day. Having just come from Pony Penning Week, Susan spoke on Marguerite Henry and Misty of Chincoteague. Then all five of us gathered for an author panel and Q&A.
We are hoping to make the Equestrian Book + Market Fair an annual thing, but in the meantime, this event has given me the confidence to get out there with my books a bit more!
