The Plan

Now that my blog is back in action, a few of you have messaged asking what the plan for it will be.

The plan is there is no plan lol.

When I started blogging on blogspot, (or maybe it was blogger – I can’t remember), back in 2011, it was called The Sassy Grey, and it was all about the retraining of my off-the-Thoroughbred, Misty Mystique. I loved that logo – a cute little dappled grey filly with some pink bows in her mane.

Whyyyy was she SO cute?!

But after a few years, Misty was basically retrained, (although now that I think about it, I don’t think I could ever really call her “trained” – she was a wild child who would remain, in most ways, feral until the day she passed in 2024), and so the blog became an “equestrian lifestyle guide.” And those were the days lol.

I renamed it Maryland Equestrian and now looking back, I think very fondly about that period of my writing life, (and my life in general). James and I had just moved to our farm, and we had so much going on, (but all good things). I was renovating every single square inch of the farm, riding as much as possible, building our travel agency, freelance writing for equestrian publications, working on my books…and recording every moment of it on my blog. The good old days.

I had multiple categories to organize my entries, and by the time I stopped in 2019 or so, I had published hundreds of posts. I loved all of them – and specifically, my book reviews got a lot of traction. And the only real reason I stopped was because I was having tech problems with my WordPress site and eventually gave up fighting with it.

I had also come to realize that my blog served as a bit of an online writing resume or portfolio. When I applied to write for other publications, they always asked for writing samples, which I provided – but I also included a link to my blog to show that I indeed knew how to write and knew how to correctly use a semi-colon lol. I think it helped me secure a lot of jobs.

So now here I am – many years have passed but that desire to write, especially in long format, has not diminished. And the plan is to write about whatever I want. I won’t limit myself to any “categories” like I did before.

Of course, you can expect mostly horses – life with horses in my backyard, my horse books, author journey life, book reviews (not mine), as well as travel, (because James and I own a travel agency), Maryland and Florida, (because we snowbird), and my quest to find the best gluten free bakeries, among other topics. I’m also working on a book about Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty, so I will be sharing some of what I find during my research. Basically, everything is on the table.

More about these beauties later… ;)
